Dearest Reader,

The end of the first semester is already approaching, and I feel like I have just gotten used to all the new experiences that a board year has to offer. I have met tons of new people, attended amazing events and had to deal with various new challenges.

As a member of the XVIth board I have gotten to know my board a lot better. At the start of this journey, you join a group of 6 strangers, some you know a little and others not at all. It was all quite exciting, I mean: how was I going to work together well with a group of people while I don’t even know them? But having to work together so closely is exactly what allowed me to get to know my fellow board members really well. It has been a very diverse and enjoyable ride so far and I cannot wait for the rest of it.

As the chair I have been on quite a journey as well. I am responsible for the board meetings, GMA’s, the wellbeing of the board and organization. It took some time to get a grip on how to structure my function. Over time I have accepted that I should not be looking for structure within my function but should accept the diversity of the tasks that I tend to. Allowing no week to be the same as the one before. From checking up on the rest of the board to setting up new ideas such as movie midday and collaborations to filling in wherever necessary; it has been quite the ride, a good one though. I really like the diversity of my function and being there for my fellow board members and I look forward to continuing this function.

So far, the ride has also included some amazing activities, there have been parties, drinks, workshops and so many more things. They have all confirmed why doing a board year was a good choice, because although it can be stressful, seeing members enjoy themselves and getting to know them provides a lot of fulfillment. I cannot wait to see what activities are still to come, as I am sure that I will enjoy them just as much as I’ve done so far. And I look forward to meeting more members of SPiN.

Love,
