Board Blog Mart

Dear reader,

The idea of doing a board year has been lingering in the back of my head for a few years, but I finally made the decision to go for it about 9 months ago, and I am very happy that I made the choice to apply back then. Now that I am writing this, I spook myself by the fact that is was 9 months ago, since it does not even feel like half a year back. Anyway, in the meantime I have settled rather well into my function as board member and treasurer, and I am enjoying it very much.

I have been able to grow a lot within my function these past months. I have learned that I can get a lot of gratification from the serious side of an association, and therefore I am very happy with the position that I hold. I can keep myself very busy with figuring out bookkeeping technicalities or insurances, so perhaps you have seen me until very late in the SPiN room, busy with one of my ‘investigations’.

Let’s see if I can throw a fun anecdote in here; I have always been a firm opponent of drinking coffee, that was until I started my board year. Now I can appreciate it, a lot.

The most fun part of my function is in my experience the involvement with everything that is happening, since it all has a financial aspect nine out of ten times. This way, I see a lot of the development process of the amazing activities that our valued committees organize. I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing the creativity and enthusiasm of the active members, which raises my own motivation immensely in turn.

I am also very proud of my fellow board members, whom I can happily call my great friends, for how well it is going. Even though I knew some of them beforehand, it was still a bit daunting and interesting what would happen if you spend so much time per week with a few strangers. You might know each other (entirely), but that happens so fast once you start. I am very enthusiastic about how we are working together, how we are always there for each other, and how the rest of the year will unfold.

I also want to mention some happenings to which I am looking forward very much. As a fan of the music genre, I am very enthusiastic about Insomnia which will take place this month. I am also very much looking forward to the trips that I will go on, namely the city trip and study trip. Furthermore, I am very curious about the designs that the merchandise committee will come up with this year, and I cannot wait for every coming moment on which I can suit up in my amazing board suit.

Best wishes,

Mart
