Board members of the XIIIth board of SPiN (2020/2021)

Chair

Dear reader,

I am Jekke Metzlar and this year I am the chair of this beautiful association. I am twenty years old and I grew up in Heesch. My 2 sisters and I all live in Nijmegen which is really nice and a lot of fun.

I am a third-year student now. In my first year, I became an active member at SPiN. I first joined the Illustration committee, in my second year I was the chair of the Sports committee. I really liked organising these activities and working together with new people. I want to give students the same experience with SPiN as I had since I enjoyed it so much. As the chair, I will keep the overview of the board as well as the association. Besides this, I will supervise 3 committees. Next to all the board stuff, I like to paint, I love skiing in the winter break and during the summer break you will most likely find me hiking in the Swiss Alpes with my family.

I am looking forward to the upcoming year with hopefully a lot of nice activities where we can meet each other.

Kind regards,

Jekke Metzlar

Secretary

Dear reader,

My name is Seray van Montfort, I am 21 years old, and this year, I will fulfil the coveted position of secretary at your favourite Psychology study association in Nijmegen. I was born and raised in Ede, but when I decided to study in Nijmegen, I moved instantly, and I have not looked back since. This beautiful city has welcomed me with open arms and has already given me many great memories. Right now, I am in my second year of the bachelor, but by writing this sentence, I have probably already put in more time then I have for my courses so far.

Last year, I had the pleasure of being the chair of the Freshmen committee. I really enjoyed organising activities, and it had me longing for more. Besides being an active member, I was a regular at activities, and I frequented the common room. This association has already given me a lot of great experiences. Now it is my time to pass these along. As secretary, I will be in charge of the outgoing communication of the association. This entails that I will be responsible for the email, the website, newsletters, and last, but certainly not least, our very own SPiN application. Besides my busy board life, I like to meet up with friends, play the piano or guitar, and read. I only started playing the guitar during the lockdown, but I enjoy it so much that I like to pretend that this is something  ‘I do’  now. Furthermore, for sports, I enjoy playing squash and table tennis.

I am expecting this the be a hectic and turbulent year, but I am looking forward to it with great anticipation!

Cheers,

Seray van Montfort

Treasurer

Dear reader,

I am Neele Ulken, a third-year student, and I will be SPiN’s treasurer this year. This means that I will be mainly responsible for the accounting. I am the person you can turn to if you have questions about the contribution fee or other financial matters. Apart from spending time on board duties, I like to try out different sports and just laugh with my friends about poor jokes.

After graduating from school I did a year of volunteering in England where I worked and lived with people with learning disabilities. With this experience in mind, I was sure that I wanted to study psychology, preferably abroad. Fortunately, I chose the beautiful city of Nijmegen.

From the beginning of my studies, I participated in many activities organized by SPiN. I always felt very welcome and had a lot of fun. This helped me to quickly feel at home in Nijmegen. This year I would like to give something back and help to ensure that, despite COVID-19, you can have unforgettable experiences with your fellow students during our activities.

I am looking forward to a slightly different but still wonderful board year with lots of fun activities.

Best wishes,

Neele Ulken

Formal Internal Affairs Officer

My name is Iza van Blokland, I am 20 years old and I am currently in the second year of the bachelor of Psychology. This year I will be the formal internal affairs officer of SPiN. This means that I will be guiding the formal committees of this year.

Before I started studying here in the beautiful Nijmegen I lived in Helmond where I was born and raised. And you can still find me here in the weekends when. But Nijmegen and its people took my heart ever since.

When I started studying here SPiN instantly took my heart. In my first year I joined the Party And Drinks committee and had a lot of fun organizing all these fun events.

In my spare time I like to hang out with friends, go out to dinner and plan my next trip to a fun city in Europe. But now I also like to explore the cities of our own country.

This year will be different than other years but we will definitely try to make it the best we can and come up with lots of creative ideas! I hope I will meet all of you as soon as possible.

Love,

Iza van Blokland

Informal Internal Affairs Officer

Hi there!

My name is Tinco Roebroek, I’m 20 years old, and therefore the youngest board member this year. I was born here in this beautiful city Nijmegen, but I was raised in a Boxmeer, a smaller village close by. About 2 years back I moved to Nijmegen again and I am not planning on leaving anytime soon!
this year I will fulfil the function of Informal Internal Affairs Officer. This means that I will be guiding most of the informal committees within SPiN. Next to my functions at SPiN, I’m in my third year of the English track of psychology.

About me, I’m the type of person you see at the start of a party or activity and then lose for the remainder of the evening, as I am all over the place talking to as many people as possible. However, in the end, I will always be there if you need me. In my spare time, I love to do multiple forms of sports, such as basketball and fitness. Other hobbies of mine are playing video games, making music, and showing off my DJ skills to that one plant I own!
I’m the kind of guy who’s always in for a chat or a good laugh, so whenever you see me walking around campus or anywhere else in Nijmegen don’t hesitate to walk up to me and have some small talk or have a somewhat more elaborate conversation with me once the SPiN common room opens up again!

Hopefully, we will have a wonderful year together and I am looking forward to meeting all of you guys.

Cheers,

Tinco Roebroek

Academic Relations Officer

Dear reader,

I am Dirk Couwenberg and this year I have the good fortune of being the Academic Relations Officer in the board of SPiN. I’m 20 years old and am currently in the second year of the English bachelor. I’m originally from the province of Brabant but I’ve lived in Nijmegen for about a year now and for the foreseeable future I don’t plan on leaving this beautiful city. In my spare time I practise martial arts, I read a lot and I’m learning to play the guitar.

I originally got involved with SPiN via my intro parents who were also in the board at the time and as an active member in the Socialcie I had a really fun time. I wanted to do more for the association and I wanted to challenge myself so the decision to do a board year was an easy one. So far I definitely have no regrets.

As Academic Relations Officer I will be representing the members of SPiN to the university and I am in contact with the overarching associations where I bring the perspective of the psychology students. Additionally, I am a contact person for members who have any questions about the book sales and I am always available to help solve any problems.

This is quite a remarkable year and the corona crisis brings with it many challenges. I do, however, see this as an opportunity to be innovative and creative. That way, even in the current situation, I, together with my board and the active members, can work to bring psychology students together and make the student life even more enjoyable.

I hope to see you all at the many activities we will be having this year and I’m always available if you want to have a chat. I hope to get to know you all and we will make a great year out of it no matter the circumstances.

Cheers,

Dirk Couwenberg

External Affairs Officer

Dear reader,

Hey, hello, bonus points for you for still reading this. My name is Leonie, I’m 20 years old and I was born in Gouda (as in the city where the cheese is from) and after 9 years I moved to a small village under Eindhoven, called Leende. I am in my third year of my bachelor and I am really excited about this year! I will fulfil the function of the External Affairs Officer, which means I am involved with contracts and sponsors, like the bars and Athena. Besides, I am also in the Acquisition committee, with whom I will be looking for sponsors for SPiN, fill up goodie bags which will be handed out on trips and look for companies who would like to collaborate for the SPiN-discount, of which you all can benefit from!

Furthermore about myself: I love reading when I am on the train, I have a growing game collection, I enjoy cooking and travelling, even if it’s a small trip to Maastricht. I also really like to drink special beers (triples are my favourite) and fill in some quizzes on Facebook to reveal what type of bread I am.

I hope to see you at the SPiN-room soon!

Love,

Leonie Blonk
