Board members of the XVth board of SPiN (2022/2023)

Chair

Dear reader,

I’m Tim Bakker and this year I get to fulfill the wonderful role of chair in this gem of an association. I am 21 years old and grew up in the dazzling Renkum, a tokkie village between Wageningen and Arnhem. My whole family has always been in love with Nijmegen, so like almost all my cousins, I too took up the baton and started studying in this beautiful city three years ago. In my hometown, I have another twin brother, unfortunately two-egg, and a sister who is also starting her adventure in Nijmegen this year. At the moment I am in my third year of the Dutch-language bachelor’s program, but there is little to speak of studying as I still have no idea what I am doing in the only subject I am taking.

Because my first year was plagued by the well-known corona pandemic, I wanted to make every effort to make my second year as student-like as possible. My desire for a student life eventually brought me to SPiN’s party & drinks committee. Full of enthusiasm and with a shark hat on my head, we organized many wonderful parties that brought my heart closer and closer to the association and its members. The coming year I will, therefore, as Mr. Praeses together with the rest of my beautiful board members, do everything in my power to make it an unforgettable lustrum year.

A word about myself, like many of my predecessors I too suffer from the severe effects of FOMO, so you can almost always find me in the SPiN common room and at every activity. I am also always running around at parties and activities because I need to strike up as many conversations as possible, so you’ll meet me eventually! Finally, I started playing the guitar as a corona hobby, so if you want a personalized serenade you know where to find me!

Kind regards,

Tim Bakker

Secretary

Hey everyone,

My name is Tjerk Adema, I’m 21 years old, and in the upcoming year I will be fullfilling the role of secretary in the XVth board of SPiN. I’m already in the fourth year of my bachelor psychology, so I’m unfortunately not finished yet :(. Luckily I can finish my bachelor with a wonderful boardyear at SPiN! If you have any questions about certain courses or projects within the psychology bachelor, don’t be afraid to ask, I probably already did it. Hopefully I can finish my whole bachelor in the upcoming year. I only have a few free choice electives left so I like my odds!

The first years of my live I spent in Breda, a city in the south of the Netherlands. I now however live at Hoogeveldt for two years already. In my leisure time I like to party and go out, but also to chill and watch a movie. Furthermore I try to work out at the gym a couple of times a week (don’t always manage to though ).

In my second year of the bachelor, I became an active member at SPiN by joining the Integration committee. In my third year I joined the Party&Drinks committee and the Formal affairs committee of N.K.W.S. Kompanio. I have had a great time at these committees and got to know so many nice and beautiful people. Besides I got a lot of experience in organizing a diverse range of activities. These are among the things I enjoy most about SPiN: The diversity of activities and getting in contact with lots of other psychology students.

In the upcoming year I hope to get to know all of you. So do not hesitate to come by the SPiN common room for some coffee, tea, to play on the Wii, or just to have a quick chat!

Best wishes,

Tjerk Adema

Treasurer

Dear reader,

My name is Jana Schneider and I am 22 years old.

In the upcoming year, I am the Treasurer of SPiN, which means that I will handle the finances of this amazing association and all your financial requests, declarations and more.

Currently, I am in my third year of the international track and one of the rare Germans in the psychology program. Originally, I come from a small town in the mountains which is about three hours away from Nijmegen. I really like the change in landscape, so I don’t have to cycle uphill much;) Other than not cycling uphill, I enjoy meeting up with my friends, crafting and pushing my fellow board members to join me in the gym:)

In my first year, I was in the Media & Yearbook committee, taking many screenshots of all our discord and zoom activities! Next, I joined the Workshop & Conference committee, where we were so lucky that all activities could be in person, so I could already get to meet some members! This year, I hope I am going to meet a lot more and have fun with all of you!

As I like to drink loads of coffee in order to provide my board with the fanciest excel sheets, you will see me a lot in the SPiN room behind my coffee cup. If you want to join me for a coffee, tea, a nice chat or tell the funniest going out stories, feel free to approach me or visit me in the SPiN room!

Best,

Jana Schneider

Formal Internal Affairs Officer

Heyhey everyone,

My name is Jaldert and it’s truly an honour to be this years’ formal internal affairs officer in SPiN! In short, I will mostly be busy with everything concerning active membership and committees, study-related committees in particular.

About myself: I’m 21 years old, I come from the beautiful Southern parts of the Netherlands and have been living in Nijmegen for 2 years now with amazing roommates. I’m currently in my third year of the bachelor and I want to focus on neuropsychology at a later time in my studies. Outside of uni, I spend most of my time doing archery and playing music, sometimes even trying to write my own songs.

Even before I started at the Radboud, I already got familiar with SPiN through a friend of mine who invited me to a lecture which really peaked my interest. Although I was not an active member in my first year yet, I’ve got to know a lot of friends through SPiN’s activities. From he parties and lectures to the ski-trip, SPiN has giving me a lot of friendships and fond memories. Now I finally get the chance to do something back for this association by doing a board-year and trying to make this lustrum year the best ever!

If you ever have any questions, need a cup of coffee or if you’re basically just searching for a means to procrastinate your studying, come by the SPiN-room and you’ll most likely find me there.

May this be an amazing year with great memories and lots of enlightenment!

With kind regards,

Jaldert-Jetse Deelstra

Informal Internal Affairs Officer

Hee everyone,

My name is Judith and in the upcoming year I will fulfil the function of Internal Affairs Officer at SPiN. This entails that I will be supervising the most informal committees.

I’m 19 years old, and grew up in the city of Enschede, but I live in Nijmegen for a year now. I’m currently in the second year of the Dutch track of Psychology.

Last year I was already an active member of SPiN. During that time, I was the vice-chair of the Sports committee. With this committee we organized two sports activities and the Batavierenrace. This was so much fun to do! As an active member, I got really involved within SPiN. This way I have met tons of new people and made a lot of new friends. To be more involved within the association, I decided to do a board year at SPiN. I feel really honored to be part of the board in the upcoming year, and I’m really looking forward to make it a wonderful year with my fellow board members, the committees and all other members at SPiN!

Besides my board year, I like to make music, go for a run and to go out. You will probably see me a lot during SPiN activities, because I’m often suffering from FOMO ;). Furthermore, you will often find me in the SPiN room, so you can always come in for a cup of coffee or tea, to play a game or just to have a nice chat.

Can’t wait to meet you all! ðŸ™‚

Love,

Judith Oomen

Academic Affairs Officer

Dear reader,

I am Laura Naemi Alders and I have the great honour of being the first international Academic Relations Officer of SPiN. I am currently in my fourth year of the bachelor and with my 21 years, I am the oldest (and wisest ) of our board. I am originally from Germany but I have been living in the beautiful city of Nijmegen for three years now. And to avoid any confusion right at the beginning, you can call me by my middle name Naemi ðŸ™‚

After graduating high school, I lived and volunteered at an orphanage in Thailand for 8 months. Spending time with the children at the orphanage and learning about their life stories and difficult past made me want to better understand them and their behavior. While I already had the idea to study psychology before, my time in Thailand made me realize that psychology is indeed the right study for me. And I still believe that I could not have made a better choice (with psychology and moving to Nijmegen of course)!

Since the beginning of my studies, I have been an active member at SPiN in the Initiative, Media & Yearbook, and Illustration committee. I liked it so much that I decided to go one step further and applied for the board. As Academic Relations Officer, I will represent the wishes and opinions of psychology students at the university and overarching associations. I will also make sure that you can order the right study books at the beginning of the semester and if you have ever any questions about the book sale, I am the person to ask.

If I am not spending all my time with studying or SPiN, I also work at the BSI. In my free time, I like to play the piano, dance, try out cafés in the city, and to spend as much time as possible with family and friends.

Best wishes,

Laura Naemi Alders

External Affairs Officer

Hee reader!

My name is Liese and I am the External Affairs Officer of the XVth board of SPiN. I am 20 years old and in my second bachelor’s year. I grew up in Lent so I am quite familiar with Nijmegen. This also means that my favourite song is, of course, Nijmegen by Ronnie Ruysdael! In my function, I will, together with the acquisition committee, be looking for ways for you to save money, for example, SPiN discounts, and for SPiN to get more money. Together with the acquisition committee I also make sure your goodie bags are always filled nicely. Other than taking care of SPiN’s acquisition, I also make sure you can get your Athena Summaries at the SPiN room and that we can party at the hottest bars in the city!

When I’m not in the SPiN room, or at some other place on campus, you can often find me in the city centre hanging out with my friends. At other times you can find me reading a book, playing the guitar or planning a nice trip!I’m very excited to be part of the board this year and experience an amazing lustrum with you and hope we are all enlightened this year :).

Love,

Liese van Eldik
